A first edition, first printing of Now We Are Six (Methuen & Co., London, 1927), signed “A.A. Milne” on the title page without inscription. This beloved volume—the third in the Winnie-the-Pooh series—features thirty-five poems brought to life by the whimsical illustrations of E.H. Shepard.

Bound in original claret red cloth with Shepard’s gilt designs, gilt top edge, and peach pictorial endpapers. Housed in the scarce first-issue dust jacket, priced 7/6 net on the spine. The jacket shows expected chipping and toning, notably to the spine; interior with light toning and minor hinge starting, though the text block remains sound. Overall well-preserved.

A desirable copy in very good to near fine condition—a cornerstone for collectors of Milne or 20th-century children's literature.

A.A. Milne (Alan Alexander Milne, 1882–1956) was a British author and playwright best known for creating Winnie-the-Pooh. Educated at Cambridge, Milne began his career as a journalist and humorist for Punch magazine. Though he wrote novels, plays, and essays, he found enduring fame through his children's books, inspired by his son, Christopher Robin. The first Pooh book, Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), and its sequels, including Now We Are Six (1927), were illustrated by E.H. Shepard and captured the imagination of readers worldwide.

Milne served in both World Wars—first as a soldier and later in intelligence—which deeply affected his worldview. Today, he is celebrated as one of the most beloved voices in children’s literature, with his stories of the Hundred Acre Wood continuing to charm readers across generations.
