Written between 1979 and 1983, Doris Lessing's Canopus in Argos: Archives represents a departure from conventional realism the author was known for, and a sharp foray into cosmic allegorical fiction. Influenced by Sufi mysticism and socio-political history, this sweeping five-volume epic chronicles the vast ideological struggle between galactic empires as they influence the spiritual trajectory of Earth.
