A landmark of Enlightenment-era medical history, Buchan’s work was the first truly successful attempt to democratize medical knowledge. Originally published in Edinburgh, this French translation by Duplanil became the standard reference for "social medicine," emphasizing hygiene, diet, and prevention over the invasive practices of the era's professional doctors. This set represents the culmination of 18th-century popular medical thought, complete with Duplanil’s extensive professional annotations and a dedication to the Count of Artois.
