Tales from the Gulistân

London: Philip Allan & Co. Ltd., 1928. John Kettelwell.

256 pp. Boards bound in black cloth with gilt-stamped spine; with the original pictorial dust jacket, housed in mylar. Jacket is complete but shows moderate foxing and age-toning, with light shelf wear to extremities. Boards are sturdy and clean. Internally, there is moderate-to-heavy foxing (spotting) to the title page, frontispiece, and occasionally throughout the text block, as is common for this publisher's paper stock. Binding remains tight.

This edition is notable for featuring nine full-page black-and-white plates and various decorative motifs by the artist. Heavily influenced by the "Beardsley-esque" aesthetic of the 1920s—perfectly complements Burton's classic translation of Persian literature.
