An illustrated biography of George Washington by J. Frost, containing one hundred in-text historical engravings. Issued during the mid-nineteenth-century publication of the author’s popular pictorial histories, this early Cowperthwait edition reflects the transitional American taste for narrative history enriched with visual material. Unlike some later editions, this Cowperthwait & Co. issue has an undated title page that corresponds to mid-nineteenth-century Frost Washington printings (ca. 1847–1850).
An early illustrated Washington biography, offering strong period appeal and complete engravings despite wear. Scarce in original calf binding and suitable for collectors of early American history and nineteenth-century pictorial works. Case 3. Good. Item #540
