Wrappers show expected wear with small edge tears, tape shadows, and minor creasing; corners softened. Text and plates printed on heavy cream stock, complete and clean throughout with only light toning. Condition: Fair to Good, complete and structurally sound.


The fifth fascicle of Ching’s Icones Filicum Sinicarum contains fifty finely executed plates documenting Chinese fern species, printed on heavy cream stock. A landmark in twentieth-century pteridology, the work combines detailed scientific taxonomy with elegant botanical illustration. Issued in limited numbers for research institutions and seldom found in private collections.


Ren-Chang Ching (1898–1986), professor of taxonomy at the Institute of Botany, Academia Sinica, was the leading authority on Chinese ferns and a major figure in modern Asian botany.
