An early 20th-century reissue of Catlin’s monumental ethnographic study. This set features the iconic 1903 John Grant binding, known for its vibrant gilt-stamped iconography of the Great Plains tribes. While Vol. I bears the 1903 Grant imprint, Vol. II retains the 1880 facsimile title page of the "Author’s" edition. A significant 19th-century visual record of the Mandan, Sioux, and Cheyenne peoples, captured during his travels between 1832 and 1839. This set both serves as a sturdy and visually impressive reference for the historian or collector of Western Americana and carries a nice touch of Chicago provenance, originating from the shelves of the famed Nedwick’s Book Store.
