The Manners, Customs, and Condition of the North American Indians, In Two Volumes

London & Edinburgh: Egyptian Hall & John Grant, 1903 & 1880. George Catlin. This is a mismatched set. There are different publishers and years for each volume. Volume 1 is published by John Grant, Edinburgh, 1903. Volume two is Egyptian Hall, London, 1880. Both volumes look very similar to each other with maroon boards with striking gold gilt designs and they are the same size. Each volume has light wear and bumping of corners, but present very well. Gold gilt on top of pages on both volumes. Bindings are tight with no loose pages. Leaves are intact with age toning but very little foxing. Leaves have no tears, marks or writing. Fold out maps are intact.

Catlin's work is of immense significance in the study of indigenous peoples of North America. These volumes are some of the first comprehensive portrayals of North American tribes before mass displacement.
